Road warriors lonesome lamentA Poem by Chad Wesley AllbrettThis is about what it says, places I've been in the soul lately.I can't sing anybody Else's song anymore, though I might love them. Lonesome is taking his thrills, I ain't got his rent or his pills. Lonesome is a good looking black guy on Saturday. He smiles and asks me wussup? But being who he is he don't wait for my reply. He's smile don't' place my face in his eye. He's got places to be, but me, I got that lonesome security. Lonesome is a Mexican woman on Monday She smiles eyelashes black, blond streaks in black hair. Then I notice her boyfriend standing behind me, the smile was something thrown past me. Lonesome is my ex woman on any number of days, She don't need a specific one. She tells my heart in memory of all our bad times. I plead to her of good times. But my timing's off like bum rhymes. Lonesome is Hank Williams on Friday, Iike a friend patting your back, drunken' sin, Yeah he's been the places that I've been. The train out my camper calls him. But I can't sing other peoples songs anymore Cause I've got Lonesome to give me some more. But at lest my work is mine My work needs done, and if I sing em fast enough I can catch lonesome before he stabs my heart with pain, whiskey soaked remains, If I sing him to sleep, he won't rattle his chains. my sorrow hangs on me like a place to fall. My blues are drinking my wine. The b*****d always brings his buddy's, hollow eyed corpse animatied by drunk shakes. Regret, past, blues takes. Lonesome is a girl I haven't met yet. She's out of reach of my embrace. like food you can't afford when your hungry. Towns Van Zandt, and Kris Kristofferson. Road scholars, guys who sing about highways I've rode. I cant' sing their songs Wednesday, Tuesday any day, Cause lonesome has settling ways. He's giving me songs of my own. Thrown' this dog a bone. © 2008 Chad Wesley Allbrett |
