I AM ME

I AM ME

A Poem by Bear
"

I'd just turned 24 when I penned these thoughts upon the page early on, the morning of 4/20/88... I'd probably just gotten home from the midnight shift of sorting junk mail for, next to nuthin', on the hour.

"

I don't care what others think.

     I am me.

I act how I want,

     do what I want

     and even say what I want.

Someone likes me,

     for what reason

     I don't know.

I am me

     maybe that's why;

I am me:

          if you don't like me

          let me be:

I am me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't have to set the world on fire...
      I just have to be the me
   I want to be.
If I changed the world,
        made a monumental difference
            that would be fine...
but, it wouldn't be through work;
                to me ~ work is a thing that must be done to earn money...
    it can fun and fulfilling --
I take my pleasure out of the interactions with the people I work..
      and out of doing my job well     whatever it my be.
I feel that I'm leaving my mark upon the world
   by living my life;     my way...
doing my own thing,   my way.
All I really want to do in my life is~
     give to those that I touch, all that I can...
   so that we can---
    explore, observe, experience, learn and grow
    perhaps becoming a little better.
With my physical - I want to be able to convey
        my mental and all that "mental" encompasses.
     Usually it's through some form of the written word,
         the best way I've discovered to express my self.
  The fact is my self is most important ~
      then those that I care for and love.
Only after the self and loved ones come my responsibilities to the outside world;
   the job, fellow man, the world that surrounds me.
When it comes down to it ~~
    it's hard to explain... can't even put a finger on my ongoing thoughts
  but, I keep writing.... trying... learning.... growing~~
looking for and finding my answers....
    that ---- wil be my
                          success.
a very relate piece, deep and thoyght provoking....alot of us youths need to know "we are we". alot of us fall into situations that affects our personality negatively, regarding how people see and feel about us....this should be a kind of anthem or some special piece pasted on the notice board of alot of school...something ed harris and dyland klebold (the columbine shootings) should have read
Oh how I appreciate this writing, this warm and honest post! I couldn't agree more. We all have faults and failings, we all have blemishes of spirit, heart and body - to think otherwise is.. well... you decide!
The following words of yours say so much... the world is a hotch potch of people, different thoughts, different faiths, different politics but, we can learn, share, grow better, become more a full blown rose or whatever than a bud that hangs then quickly dies.
'All I really want to do in my life is~ / give to those that I touch, all that I can... / so that we can--- / explore, observe, experience, learn and grow / perhaps becoming a little better.'
Thank you for being you.
Oh how good it is to make a statement. You and the world know where you stand, it clarifies the mind,
relieves inner pressure and starts you on the rest of your life with a firmer tread. Bravo!
'I take my pleasure out of the interaction with the people I (I think you need a verb here) with...
I only point this out because we're supposed to make constructive comments - I am not a nit-picker.
You may enjoy my 'statement of self' - see 'Myself' which led me to the best decision of my later life - retirement - much busier, it seems to me, than working for a living!
it's certainly the words of a confident and young 20 somethings..lol I know this character well. We thought we could conquer the world at this age and I love the way you express it so well. Defiant yet not arrogant. A pleasure to read :)
Wonderful!!! - "I feel that I'm leaving my mark upon the world /by living my life; my way.../ doing my own thing, my way." - that is the BIG "responsability" we have (if we want to take one!!!We don't "have"!) in this world: is to be "me", and have "my way" of doing things! This is the only way we can make a difference and live behind some better footprints!!! If we don't do that we are just robots following some comanding strings... and that is sad... we kill each other because someone tells us to do it, we work to be "equal" or "better then"... we waist our energies just doing "unhealthy" things for others... I always tell people that "i don't work, i play!" (because i will only do what i love to do and do it because i love! Although some days i "have to do it" even if... :) eh eh eh... but that is part of the "play"!!! - Lovely!
