I AM ME

I AM ME

A Poem by Bear
"

I'd just turned 24 when I penned these thoughts upon the page early on, the morning of 4/20/88... I'd probably just gotten home from the midnight shift of sorting junk mail for, next to nuthin', on the hour.

"

I don't care what others think.

     I am me.

I act how I want,

     do what I want

     and even say what I want.

Someone likes me,

     for what reason

     I don't know.

I am me

     maybe that's why;

I am me:

          if you don't like me

          let me be:

I am me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't have to set the world on fire...
      I just have to be the me
   I want to be.
If I changed the world,
        made a monumental difference
            that would be fine...
but, it wouldn't be through work;
                to me ~ work is a thing that must be done to earn money...
    it can fun and fulfilling --
I take my pleasure out of the interactions with the people I work..
      and out of doing my job well     whatever it my be.
I feel that I'm leaving my mark upon the world
   by living my life;     my way...
doing my own thing,   my way.
All I really want to do in my life is~
     give to those that I touch, all that I can...
   so that we can---
    explore, observe, experience, learn and grow
    perhaps becoming a little better.
With my physical - I want to be able to convey
        my mental and all that "mental" encompasses.
     Usually it's through some form of the written word,
         the best way I've discovered to express my self.
  The fact is my self is most important ~
      then those that I care for and love.
Only after the self and loved ones come my responsibilities to the outside world;
   the job, fellow man, the world that surrounds me.
When it comes down to it ~~
    it's hard to explain... can't even put a finger on my ongoing thoughts
  but, I keep writing.... trying... learning.... growing~~
looking for and finding my answers....
    that ---- wil be my
                          success.
a very relate piece, deep and thoyght provoking....alot of us youths need to know "we are we". alot of us fall into situations that affects our personality negatively, regarding how people see and feel about us....this should be a kind of anthem or some special piece pasted on the notice board of alot of school...something ed harris and dyland klebold (the columbine shootings) should have read
A great personal statement. And also not a bad philosophy to live by. Hurt no one, be yourself, keep cheerful. If more were like that things wld be measurably better for all. Also, great that you have kept faith with your words from so long ago.
i really like this poem. very strong, intense, thought-provoking piece. i especially loved the first stanza. as written by dr suess on the subject of being oneself "those who mind don't matter & those who matter don't mind". no truer words have been spoken. to be loved for who one truly is, is the greatest thing on earth. a wonderful piece. very optimistic, & inspirational.
Okay I am hooked. I love the purity in your writings. If everyone could be so transparent like this the world would be a better place. There is such power in your poems every one of them I read thus far. I will be back to get me some power. Great job.
Hey, it looks like we're the same age! I think being true to yourself is the single most important gift you can give yourself in life. You must have been very precocious to figure that out so early on. It took me a LOT longer than age 24 to learn that simple yet crucial element of life. This poem is great because it captures not only an essential truth, but also a moment in time when you expressed to yourself something that was a central core of your being. Very nice words. Thanks for sharing them!
Truthfully convincing and sincerfe, as well as powerful,
You put an awsome ammount of thought into each sentence and it shows,
you talent shines through with this poem, as well as the key features that bring
your words to life, keep up the great work.
