Do You Know

Do You Know

A Poem by Bear
"

this is a re-working of four lines written back in 1988. The line vertical in blue, is the first line of the original poem.

"

D ecember chill wthin the air

rion visible within the clear night sky.

ou enter my thoughts

nce again as you

ndoubtedly do each time I gaze upwards at the moon

K indred spirits, I believe we be

N ot often in contact in person, by letter or e-mail but,

ften our thoughts are of one another;  are they not?

W e share a stong bond, nutured from moment one.

H aving shared common interests, be it a bottle of beer, interest in a film

O ur friendship grew, thanks to you; your heart and soul so kind; you

W elcomed me into your life, granting me the chance to learn from you and about

M y inner self.

U nbelieving in myself; you've reminded me over time to take the same

C hance you took on me.

H ave a heart and grant the chance given to me, to those

I may not take the time to see that what lies deep within them my be

L isting and lost as I was that night our paths first crossed.

O nce I asked you the reason why you took the chance with me and

V ery honestly, you replied

E very one needs that chance from anther, something you learned and then

Y ou took the time to pass the lesson on to me.

O h sure, we've shared many times; good and bad along our way and still

U nbelievable to me after, all these years; that you remain my golden touchstone;

always steady, always there.   Bear ~ SLMPLB  4/25/08 5:58 a.m.

Very tender, personal and wise. I like the bit about the bottle of beer as it captures a simple human touch. The little things in life shared...etc.

But the bit I like most is the bit about ... 'the chance to learn from you and about My inner self.' I have often thought that we can only finally know ourselves, or at least key parts of ourselves, through others. This seems a key thing in life and your lines here nail it down as sweet as a nut.

This is very warm and loving poem. I thougth it very true and from the heart, of what could happen when we open our heart and soul.

What a lovely acrostic! And very impressive, it's lovely my friend.

I've written a few in my time but nothing that would even come close to this one. I'm totally in awe here.

Wonderful writing!

An acrostic! What fun! Have you sent it to the subject? What a great tribute to friendship, too. Nice job, Bear! *hugs you*

That is beautiful - truly delightful and kindhearted. I hope the muse for this poem appreciates how wonderful you both became in this blossoming of a friendship. Wonderful work.
