![]() ThermopylaeA Poem by beancountersar![]() This one is a description of the battle between the 300 Spartans and the mighty Persian warriors at Thermopylae![]() Thermopylae The sweltering heat of mid-day sun Electrified heat on Grecian shale; Narrow pass to defend with blood. Did the gods know who would prevail? Numbers beyond all reason and wit Approached with pompous valor. From lands beyond, for empire! Over deep and over shallow. Bodies glisten, shields protect And spear held dear with precision Helmet fixed and eyes ablaze, Poised to strike corporate incision. Wave upon wave, man after helpless man Believed the hopeless fable Xerxes soldiers, one by one, Were served on Spartan table. Piercing spear and slashing sword painted The hue of ground and rock with foolish blood. Oh, how can you hope to win with thousands Against three hundred who fight as one? For victory was sure and death was honor; There was no doubt or fear that day. From the depths of their beings Courage ruled. Nothing could dismay. Daunting the expense of freedom, More daunting the great cost of fear. Cherish and defend with all you have For all that you hold dear.
