FortressA Poem by beancountersarThis is a poem about a love that's gone bad. The beloved lady has built up a wall to hide behind and the repentant man wants so badly to tear it down.Fortress A fortress gray and cold as stone I have built around your heart. With careless words and quick replies The gates have shut; love to depart. Misgivings and things misconstrued Have welcomed mist from shores afar Though I meant well, the rocks were stacked So high that I look for the gates ajar. The heart inside yearns for the strength To trust again, to love again, endear; Its wounds profound, its searing deep That the pain remains abiding near. I must tear down this wall between Our beating hearts that wish to entwine. What must it take, what price be paid? It has truly cost the steepest fine. I say to the captive heart within “I’ll surely find a way to you” Wait for me on the other side At once my heart will come crashing through. Steve Copyright 2008 © 2008 beancountersarReviews
