I am Climbing

I am Climbing

A Poem by Nathan Betterman

I am climbing
To the top
Of the mountain.

I strain and
I fight and
I cry, too.

But, now there,
I see only
Dark, blinding clouds.

I look, and
I break, and
I scream, “WHY?”

And the echoes,
WHY, Why, why…
They return, whispers...

“Don’t lose hope.
I love you.
I am here.”

Down on knees,
Head low, humbled,
Reaching for You.

I stand only
For You, only
Through You, only.

My Shield, Father,
My Staff, Son,
My Strength, Spirit.

To you be
All true glory
Amen, again Amen.
