unbecome me

unbecome me

A Poem by bey

as i
drove to work this morning
i looked
in the rear view mirror
and saw myself

there was
an impending dark cloud
hovering about my head
i stood still awaiting
the clap of thunder
and vicious lightening
the rain began to fall
and all around me
was quiet and dull

i did not
recognize myself
i peered into the mirror deeper
in my hands
were shards of glass
each reflecting broken promises
given me

latched around my waist
were signs of disrespect
marked by
pretty compliments
and accolades of artistry

upon my head
sat a crown of angst
and ideas uprooted
my feet were clad
with chains of wait
and my eyes were
bloodshot and soaked

i pushed the rear view away
for i could not
accept what i had seen
the ugly image was frightening

i did not
recognize me
i had
unbecome me
