Uncertainty

Uncertainty

A Poem by Blue Poppy

How do they decide the day you die?

The cells of your body in mutiny

Because you smoked cigarettes

Or ate too many sweets?

How does (s)he decide the day you die?

The spoken entity yearning for your trip home

Because you sinned once too many

Or because your depravities are forgiven?

How do you decide the day you die?

Because you can’t keep up the fight anymore

Or because the fight was never

what you wanted in the first place.

I saw a reservation form in a funeral parlor with the dates and symptoms that were still available for selecting "the final day" but as I was filling out my preferred, reason for and date of demise, I died.

So many questions and so few answers. All I can say is I am happy I don't know how long I have got left. Can't think of anything worse than knowing our departure is scheduled for ten minutes. A thought provoking little write.
