Picture Day Problems

Picture Day Problems

A Story by Brittany Carta
"

This is part 1 of my draft for a story called Picture Day Problems.

"

Lola lived in a red house made of bricks. Her house was on the right side of the street and the third one down. Inside there was a play room across from the kitchen, a dining room next to the playroom, and Abuelitos' bedroom.

Upstairs on the right was the bathroom with a huge tub Lola loved to play in. Sometimes, at bath time, Momma would even turn the jets on and make it like a hot tub. That's a pool with warm water and lots of bubbles. If you went past the hot tub bath tub and on the left was Momma and Madres' room. Lastly, tucked away in the other corner on the right was Lola's bedroom.

Currently sitting on Lola's bed were both of her mothers’ and her Abuelito.

"What's the big emergency honey-you nearly pulled my hand off to drag me up here", asked Momma.

" I have a huge problem and I need everyone's help, it's VERY important. If I don't get this right I will be the laughing stock of all of the first grade and then I will be forced to eat lunch by the yucky trash cans by Myself. Every Day- you guys. By the trash!"

"Whoa, easy there kid", soothed Momma.

"Tell us what this is about and we will all help you. Remember, no problem is to big for an Ortiz. Right."

" Right. I forgot about that", said Lola in a hushed tone.

Lola turned around and rummaged through her backpack on the floor. She then shoved a manila colored form at her parents.

Picture Day! First grade pictures will be taken on  Wednesday October 25th. Please pick out a package if you would like to order photos and return them with a check in your child's folder no later than October 10th. Payments received after the 10th may not arrive in time for the upcoming holidays.

Thank you,

Principal Coleman

"See, see! I have to have the best outfit for picture day or my whole first grade will be ruined. And if i have a bad picture I won't have any friends and I'll be made to eat by the smelly trash."

"Lola, you will not be made to eat by the trash, commanded Abuelito. I would never let that happen. Besides, you know your Abuelito is a snappy dresser"

Lola giggled with a smile. She then went to her closet and started throwing clothes all over the floor.

" Baby girl, what are you searching for?, asked Madre. We can just get you a new dress for picture day-it's not for weeks"

" I am looking for my astronaut costume. That will make for a cool picture for sure."

" Maybe for Halloween pictures but not for a school picture."

"Well, what about this then?" Lola held up her purple tutu, a purple shirt with a cat on it and her favorite pair of faerie  wings.

Momma raised her right eyebrow. " Not happening kid. These pictures have to be nice- like the ones we always take for Christmas and send to everybody in the mail."

Lola was stumped.

She couldn't wear her tutu fairy clothes nor could she wear her astronaut costume. what could she wear that was guaranteed to give her the best picture in all of picture day?

That is IT? We don't get to find out how Picture Day went? If I give you a good review, will you tell me how it ends? If not, I will hold my breath until I--what? Oh. Never mind. I've just been informed by a friend that as soon as I hold my breath for long enough to lose consciousness,I will automatically start breathing again. Who knew? So, okay, I'll just do what's right. Great write.
