Ordinary Girl

Ordinary Girl

A Poem by Arte Por Vida
"

I can't remember when I wrote this.. But it was about myself.

"

Black and white Converse

Gold and red hair

She’s the girl

With a broken smile

A slowly healing heart

And hope in her hazel eyes

Tiny little waist line

Bitten down fingernails

Just age 16

But plenty more mature

With some experience under her belt

And a few little battle scars

Razor blade in hand

Homemade joint between fingers

Insomnia keeps her up at night

But that stuff is past

She’s clean and done hurting

Preparing herself for the future

Mama’s an alcoholic

Daddy has anger management problems

This girl feels lost

Like her family doesn’t care

Except maybe her brainy sister

Or her ever-loving fluffy cat

Hidden by a mask

Shadowed by unreal expectations

Strive is all she can do

To try to be everything she can

Even with every harsh word

Or discouraging statement made

Head bowed down

Tired eyes close

Her desperation turns to prayer

Asking Jesus to help her

Begging for a change in her life

Then she finishes with Amen

Chin up and head held high

Each step has a purpose

This young woman is going places

To fulfill her wildest dreams

Spread God’s grace

And prove all those who doubted her wrong
