A Poem by Arte Por Vida
"

I think this is pretty powerful.. 3/17/11

"

She builds you up

She gives you encouragement

She showers you with compassion

And she always gives you a smile

You’re having a bad day
So she lets you vent

Taking in every word

And caring more than you know

You go home feeling better

And she feels happy

But just for awhile

Until reality sets in

Verbal and emotional abuse

Really the only “home” she knows

She breaks down crying

All alone in her room

She carves things into her skin

Such as “love,” “hate,” or just lines

Then proceeds to cover the cuts

Careful not to make a mess of blood

The next day you see her

And she’s no different

Then when you saw her last

And she greets you with an ever-loving smile

You are blind to her pain

As well as her tears and scars

You’re so focused on your life

And the trivial little things

And this time when you say farewell

You are clueless while she is knowing

That this will be the last time

For she’s killing herself tonight
