Death--by a Broken Heart

I got the inspiration for this from the song Stand in the Rain by Superchic[k]

I'm standing in the rain
Although I'm not drowning
I'm shivering--freezing
My drenched clothes are weight me down
I'm ready to collapse
Will anyone catch me?

I have trouble believing
Anyone who answers "yes"
For I've been tested
And lost 'friends'
Who had pretended to care
But everything with them
Were endless lies

The people I've lost
Still mean a lot to me
Even though for them
I'm not even worth dirt
The pain they caused me
Hurts so much more
Than any broken bone

Hearts can be broken
And it happens every day
Most brush it off like nothing
But the suffering feel it
It tears them to pieces
Until there's near nothing left
And they just give up

Not only is their heart broken
But also their soul
Their self-esteem plummets
And they feel useless
The feeling made worse
Every time they see
The very person who crushed them

All this happens
While the one who caused the pain
Goes about life normally
Feeling no guilt
For the horror they've done
The pain they caused
Or the heart they keep crushing

This one injury
That no band-aid will fix
Nor will the strongest cast
This is unhealable
Unless you get love
From the soul
Who caused all the pain

Knowing the cure
Does no one any good
Because the sufferer knows
The one who hurt them
Doesn't care
And never did
They're left forever
