Pioneers

Pioneers

A Poem by B.J
"

Pioneers in a country that is harsh

"
Pioneers
Roam new lands
Escaping
Old ways
Old prejudice

Arrive to new lands
New ways
Pioneers
To breakaway

Find and settle
A harsh land
Strange birds
Strange animals
Strange sounds

Wagons rattle
Along dusty trails
Unexperienced heat
As never before
Follow the birds
They will always
Find water

Settle in the scrub
Clear the land
Build a hut
But
Pioneers
Found it tough

Some stayed
Some moved on
Ruins of a time gone by
Yet all things must die
But not like that

Australia
A land so diverse
Not all could settle
Indigenous people
Showed us how

Pioneer settlements
Now
Show us a history
Lands worked
Lives lost
So we can live

In a country
So diverse
