The Abscence of Color in the Blue of His Pretty Eyes.A Poem by Jeanmarie FlahertyHe's looking pretty... The palms of his hands are stained with this side of heaven the abscence of sunsets, he's blue with the moon... and he's looking pretty from the corner of my eye where teardrops settled and shamed me, where the ocean meets sunrise, where the tide spits her angry admittance of the moon's reflective kiss, her sins.. look a lot like tears these days, they blur my view.. but he still looks pretty, he still looks.. good.
He's laying next to me, I can feel his skin, his tattoo is apparent in the dark, I know it's there, the decoration of past summer afternoons, I was crazy... circling him, underestimating love and mirrors, that sat upon the dressers that spoke silently of marriage, backed up on the bedroom wall, we lived in corners, he and I... and, My God, he was pretty when he stole sunrise and smashed the beginning of days straight into my afternoon thighs.
I glance upon the ashes that control us, they're written out in code, the love notes that cry when the lights turn out, terrified of my memory.. and he whispers, scattering midnight across my shoulders with a breath, I've crossed the path of nightime and her shadows.. are so pretty, the beauty of sight the abscence of color, the shade of his eyes when he blinks... and he looks good from here, from where I'm sitting, from this end of heaven and the corners of the moon, he looks at me with the sky dangling from his eyelashes, and it's pretty when I close my eyes.
