While the world sleeps

While the world sleeps

A Poem by barricade
"

Memoirs of an insomniac...

"

While the world sleeps,
I lay awake,
struggling to find peace,
fighting this restlessness...

Unanswered questions

and raging thoughts echoing in my head.
I fail to pacify this turbulence,
I try to sleep,
to shun these thoughts,
but like ghosts they haunt me,
interrogating my beliefs,
strangling my faith,
instilling a fear...

Fear of the past that I suppress,
fear of loosing the present I nestle,
fear of what the future holds.

I get no peace,
this fire of thoughts,

it fails to cease.

What do I do?
Where do I go?

I want to run away,
bidding good bye,
in search of the answers.

But here I am,
as I lay awake,
while the world sleeps,
looking around blind and blank,
with voices filling my head,
waiting for something to ease me,
to give me the answers.

Why does this happen to me?
Why do I care?

Here I am,
talking to myself,
still not able to sleep.

These thoughts they suffocate me...

I close my eyes, try to sleep,
but nothing seems to work.

The world's still sleeping,
and I still lay awake.
These are my nights,
What do I say,
I'm getting used to it,
becoming a nomad,
an insomniac..

A wanderer by night,
In search of answers,
exploring the unexplored...

My life...

haha Yes at times thoughts seem to capture you and make it so you can not sleep...I think we all have this from time to time, though some more than others. I listen to music to try and keep my mind focused on that especially when nights like this happen. It seems to help but depends on the person.

Good Job

Those lines caught me to your poem. It is a wonderful read. Nice usage of words. Well done. it is nice to read such a kind of poetry, which is both descriptive and gives the emotion out almost immediately.

Ah Yes! I love this. 1am nearly here and I'm up ..thinking. I so relate to the flurry of thoughts that rush in at just the right moment before it's time for slumber. Awake with no off button no matter how exhausted. Great read!!!!!

This is the perfect read for me right now as it is 2 am over here.
Staying awake all by ourselves makes us wonder things. Things which we realize there are no ultimate answers to. You've expressed all that well. I especially love that last line. It sums everything up.

"But nothng seems to work...
the world's still sleeping...
and i still lay awake..."

I've had those restless nights too, when it seems I will never get to sleep as I just think about everything. The frustration comes out in this poem perfectly. I hate it when I can't sleep. Great job :)

Excellent flow and feel with this one.. this is one of the writes that I said I relate to .. I can totally feel where you are coming from .. word by word.. comes together.. in the same puzzle.. who are we.. what will we do next? Numb.. speechless.. only feeling my heart beating and grasping for breathe at some points.. very human and many actually will relate to this.. I see it where I am.

I close my eyes, try to sleep...
But nothng seems to work...
the world's still sleeping...
and i still lay awake...
these are my nights...
What do i say...
am getting used to it...

Wow well woven between the past and present, it is tough to be torn between two worlds, I know! Wonderful flow!

exploring the yet unenexplored...
My life...

Even though you don't give one iota of the issues troubling you, the anguish comes across quite clear in this poem. I loved the ending as well as the lines on fear. Kudos
