"

Eighteen forty-five, and I’m not well.

This crowed town has gone to hell"

The ground is dry and crackin’ up;

The world we have is not enough.

Daddy called me to his dyin’ side,

Said, “son, please leave this place behind.”

“Take the wagon, hit the trail.”

“And when the devil’s on your tail…”

Circle the wagons.

Grab my daddy’s gun.

Life out on the trail ain’t all that easy, son.

Danger greets you in the mornin’,

And it don’t sleep at night.

Find a shootin’ star to be your guide and light.

It takes more than a man…

To fight the good fight.

Fourteen weeks of death out in the wild"

I’m nothin’ but a poor lost child;

This way of life has had its way.

I hear dad say, “you’ll be okay.”

I look out into the open space

Where we will build our restin’ place,

And then I hear a gunshot crack.

I stop the wagon and turn back.

Circle the wagons.

Grab my daddy’s gun.

Life out on the trail ain’t all that easy, son.

Danger greets you in the mornin’,

And it don’t sleep at night.

Find a shootin’ star to be your guide and light.

It takes more than a man…

To fight the good fight.

I know at the time it felt like I was all alone…

But ten years down the line, I learned to call this place my home.

I know I’m alive and I can tell

When I go to that wishin’ well

And see the water’s crystal clear.

I close my eyes and dad’s right here.

He smiles and he pats me on the back,

“Son you’ve taken quite a path,”

“I know that heart o’ yours still hurts.”

And I still hear my father’s words…

Circle the wagons.

Grab my daddy’s gun.

Life out on the trail ain’t all that easy, son.

Danger greets you in the mornin’,

And it don’t sleep at night.

Find a shootin’ star to be your guide and light.

It takes more than a man…

It takes more than a man…

To fight the good fight.

Eighteen fifty-five and I’m alive.
