Emptiness Leaves A Heart Aching

Emptiness Leaves A Heart Aching

A Poem by Barbara Kasey Smith
"

Love doesn't promise eternity and when a person loses it...the pain hurts.

"

I pause to watch sea gulls dipping into the brine;
mindful they're there for a sundown meal.
The sun unveils a painting of beauty;
oranges, whites, and yellows mien the sky.
Waves roll...they're late for opening night;
lapping sand sucks in a twilight meal.

Footprints are wiped away leaving a clean slate,
leaves foam edges along the oceans shoreline.
A mist brings bushy heads and lifeless curls...
opens the rawness within a heart and soul,
harboring a love lost by turbulent winds and storms;
a desire to hold-on and not to lose the fervent passions.

Darkness overtakes moments until the moon lightens,
leaves an image of the sea retreating before my eyes.
It's like love walking right out of my life never to return,
gloom drops by to clinch my aches and pains within.
Why must love feel good but loss hurts bad,
causing a turmoil to chap a person's entire soul?
