A new found power awakens in Amaede

"

Amaede felt peace in her sleep in her dreamlike state, and she felt herself smiling as she felt a hand on her cheek caressing her. Who was that dark figure, and why is she not scared of it. For that she knew nothing of. Her angel hidden in the darkness. ‘Was he darkness? Was he not?’, her mind danced around those thoughts, and she opened her eyes slightly imagining the dark figure staring right back at her. She sprang up and looked around her surroundings, noticing that it was daylight. Amaede rubbed her eyes not knowing of the time, and she looked at her skin still glowing about the same value as before. She didn’t understand it, but yet she still had the same hunger for freedom as before. It was as if the death of Juru unlocked a special key within herself. A new chapter in her life was about to start, and she wanted start it sprinting.

Amaede removed the bed covers as placed her feet onto the now wooden floor. She looked at the floor, and could still see black blood stains embedded into the wood. Since last night, the carpet was removed, and she did not sleep until the burning ritual of Juru’s body was to be finished. She hated these rituals, she hated the smell of the body, she hated looking at the empty expression he/she’s face, but she knew it was needed to be done to rid the darkness of that being so they can move on with peace. According to her religion, to surround the body of darkness in light was the only way to heal the evil in that subjects heart. By doing that meant cremating the body. Amaede had only ever witnessed one shadow being burnt at the stake by order of the previous Dark King, Thalo, for plans of conspiracy in his courtroom. She shook that old thought out of her, and she made her way to her closet.

Amaede opened the doors and stared at what seemed like her endless wardrobe. She hated most of the outfits for their constricting nature, and if it were up to her she would wear night dress, or even pants, as often as she could. Today, she was supposed to continue on her lessons, but instead she has to see the highest priests of the courtroom to understand how to tame her power. She wish she didn’t have to, and it was only for the fact that she feared the presence of more dark souls tormenting her. Amaede couldn’t understand why she was such a prime target even if she was a princess, nothing recorded in history has this happened before. So now she had to embark on a new journey; being a test dummy.

Amaya walked into the room with her hand covering her eyes slightly blinded to Amaede’s glow, she said, “your father requested for you to wear your ritual robes.” Amaya sat on her bed, and asked, “are you alright dear?” She dangled her feet from the bed, and kept her eyes shut trying to not be blinding by the light.

“I am fine, I just don’t see the point on trying to drain my power,” Amaede responded and pouted.

“It’s not so much as draining, it’s more or less understanding it. Besides, you wouldn’t want people to be blinded by your presence forever.” Amaya said and smiled trying to reassure Amaede. “You can’t attract boys if they can’t even look at you without burning their eyes to crisp!” She snickered teasing, and she cracked her knuckles then proceeded to crack her neck.

Amaede shivered at the awkward sounds of Amaya’s joints popping. It was the one habit that bothered Amaede the most. She replied, “who said I wanted to attract boys? I would rather be independent! Make my own decisions on how I want to settle with my life you know?” Amaede sighed frustrated at this never ending topic of discussion.

Amaya sighed as well, “I know you don’t want to hear of it, but you are closing in on that prime age dear, and I want you to…”

“Please! I know! But I just got all of this power back, and I am finally able to live the way I want to. So many children could go out and play, and I had to stay at home with these curses on my skin! I want to live my moment in the sun! I want to be able to have some adventure! Something!” Amaede interrupted angrily, and bit her lip feeling bad for snapping. “I’m sorry Amaya! Being free of these curses was something I have always wanted in my life, and to now have it be so… I just don’t know how to approach this. My body just wants to run, and never stop! I feel like I can fly!” A small tear ran down her eye trying to shake away the frustration.

Amaya stood up and hugged the young princess. “It’s alright dear! I shouldn’t of brought it up. I just want your happiness, and if you are happy I am happy!” She smiled, and wiped a tear from Amaede’s cheek.

“Thanks Amaya!” Amaede returned the hug. She turned around and proceeded to take out her ritual robes from the closet. She placed the fabric closed to her nose, and sighed still smelling the fire from last night. “Is there anything I can do to remove this burning smell from the cloth?” Amaede asked and displayed her robes to Amaya.

Amaya smiled, and she snatched the robes from Amaede’s hands. “Let me help you with that!” She walked across the room and grabbed a large water basin, and she placed the robe inside. Amaya waved her arms around, and blew air towards the basin. Moments have passed as water began to collect inside the basin. She smiled as she grabbed a bar of soap and scrubbed the robes humming happily.

Amaede crossed her arms, and walked over observing Amaya’s magical talents as water continued to fill the basin out of no where. “After all of these years you never fail to show off your water skills!” Amaede remarked and smirked.

“You know me my dear! We Halfa’s always have to find a way to impress someone!” Amaya smiled with pride as she finished scrubbing at the robes. She stood up, and cracked the dress into the air with steam rolling out into the air. It collected along the glass mirror, and fogged up the windows. Amaya presented Amaede with a perfectly cleaned out robe. “Now it’s time to change! We don’t want to keep your father waiting!”

Amaede nodded her head in a way of saying thank you, and she stripped her nightgown off. Amaya handed her the robe and disappeared into her room to finish getting ready. Amaede walked back towards her closet, and grabbed a bra as she carefully tucked herself in. She looked down at her chest staring down at her glowing necklace, and she couldn’t fight the urge to look at herself in the mirror. She smiled feeling a small tear running down her cheek seeing every curse on her body removed. Her skin was as milky and smooth as it used to be when she was a small child. Seeing herself in this form almost took Amaede aback. Even though all her life she was told she was beautiful, the weight of the scars always hid that image of herself in her mind. Amaede can no proudly call herself beautiful, and she felt herself glow brighter. She lifted her hand wanting to try this power that she was taught but could never been done with the curses. She looked at her desk chair and pushed her hand forward. A small surge of light collected and bursted forward pushing the chair roughly back into the desk. She bursted out laughing in joy, and she couldn’t wait until she could try out more of her powers. She was elated, but she frowned knowing it would have to wait until she can get the all clear from the priests.

She sighed and began putting on her robes. She took out the underdress and she slipped on over her body. The peal glistened in the sunlight as the light silk hugged against her curves. She than took the second robe consisting of floral designs of gold with the underdress as the backdrop of pearl and slipped it on her arms than tied it around her waist. She finally took the final robe of mostly pearl with golden embellishments, and she slipped the longest sleeves through her arms, and buckled the opening at her belly button. She looked at herself an all the extremely warm layers of silk hug her body. She liked these robes, but only on rare occasions.

Amaede walked towards her desk and found her jewelry, and tied a golden and pearl chain around her waist as it dangled with an angel clasp holding a similar stone on front. She pinched away the front most hairs on her head and began to twist them from left to right slowly weaving and twisting each separate group of hair. As it completed being tied around she grabbed the rest of her hair and braided it all on one side until she finished with her hair dangling on the front. Amaede grabbed her tiara and placed it softly on top, and placed on her earrings. Her transformation was complete. She walked back towards the mirror, and found her shoes she wore last evening and placed them on. She felt regal, but yet she felt out of place, and her new found glow made her feel uncomfortably godlike.

Amaya walked back in dressed in her blue ritual robes representing her element, and she smiled placing a hand under Amaedes cheek to grab her attention. “Are you ready dear?”

“As I will ever be I guess,” Amaede weakly smiled back as they both together exited the room.

The hallways always felt so endless with emblems of the sun marked on many tapestries. The halls too were consisted of pearl white marble, and small embellishments painted in gold. Angels depicted would be painted, or carved into the wall with gold embellishments. The pillars stood tall on each side making the hallway seem almost longer. Little shadows of leaves would dance around the floor with nearby trees agains the window.

They continued to walk seeing more guards following behind, looking like they were ready for a surprise raid from the dark folk. Though the thought of it is silly since it was pure daylight outside. These hallways were built to let in as much light as possible. A few hallways down they finally approached the throne room. The doors stood almost about three floors tall. A small history of the beginning of the kingdom was foretold as a painting along the door way. Angels of light battled against the darkness, and a single angel, Alora, displayed the crystal of power. It is that crystal that every citizen of the Light Kingdom carried around their necks. It was the jewel of purity, and the jewel of power. The doors opened, and the two women walked in.

“How are you feeling today?” Amaede’s voice echoed throughout the massive throne room before them.

This was cool. I really enjoyed the imagery.
The getting dressed sequence was maybe a little drawn out, but I like that I have a nice image of what she now wears.
There are quite a few typos that are mistakes that are easy fixed by some proofreading. I'd list them but it would make this a bit long. I'm sure you'd spot them yourself if you have a chance to re read it slowly sentence by sentence.
I'm curious for more. Keep it coming.
