The Red Light DistrictA Poem by PiperLight 'em up!
Being lost in the expansive network of the Canals
Keeping track of which of the bridges you crossed is vital While not being ran over by bikers And by students allover the world trying to find their joint lighters Christian groups of all ages condensed around a single map Trying to find which way out of this trap With this, I stumbled on the Red Light District Which appeared to everyone on the outside a carnival of misfits Stores covered both sides of the canal with sex Toys and clothing giving the heart a little hex And cafes joined alongside them to sustain the pot smokers And trashcans exploded by the never sober jokers Women danced behind glass doors Looking like as if attracting a customer was a chore Yet she looked like a pro Appearing like a slideshow Tour groups pointed and gave nervous smiles Not well knowing the Amsterdam style College boys teasing each other to approach the door And the boy made an escape by slipping to the floor It makes me wonder how these women are not bothered By being the center of all the stares of the awkward The center of all the goofy grins of the high To chose such a profession makes me wonder why Amsterdam is the true sin city But to survive one must be witty With every corner being something new Who knows how that corner may effect you
