WhiteA Poem by Chirpy!About Labels. I think.White Shame of shade Always tempted to check- to mark myself
as Other
Undefined Can't I be proud - of white? Seems to me... A poem
is written or a story Our hero - heroine - Checking white (a lie, they know) Mumbling that White - using it? Finally they accept themselves and are praised - not as
White As them. They shed that little White lie Find
their truth What if I am White? What about me? What about my truth? Can't I show my little white truth and be praised - not as
White But as
Me? Not as a dream in grasp or opportunities opened or doors
never closed But as
Me? White oppression White supremacy pure white clean white White White White Racism is wrong. A perfect white is racist. I am racist...? Just a bunch of racist whites Who think they're better than everyone else Who think they are the best Who will crush anyone - anyone Who says so Who is Who? Is Who White? Does Who say I am White? Maybe... when I go to work at a big job in a big skyscraper in a big pretty city that will pay me according to which box on what floor for
this time I will wear Black over my pure White shirt. Or Maybe... To celebrate myself as a woman I will wear golden honey Yellow or maybe Red Over my pure White shirt. Maybe... I will wear chocolaty Brown Over my pure White shirt Or a blue blue Black Over my pure White shirt Maybe... I will wear Other colors I celebrate. Born in a good home. To a good family. With a good shade. I will listen. I will have white children. I will die. © 2010 Chirpy! |
