"Maria, I'm taking Amy to the party," I said, gathering up my purse and keys, "I'll be back in about a half-hour, call me if anything happens."
The maid just nodded and stirred the dinner on the stove.
"Ready Amy?" I asked my eleven-year-old daughter, who was sitting on the stairs. She nodded and grabbed her Emily the Strange gym bag, filled for an overnight stay at the old house up the street. I opened the front door and unlocked the Jeep.
"So, you're going to call me if anything goes wrong, right?" I asked, pulling the Jeep out of the driveway.
"Yeah, mom," she said, picking at her black nail polish, "I mean, it's not like we're going to be trapped in a house with Dracula or something. Jessie and Jenn are just having a little Friday the 13th party, and decided to invite the 'little Goth girl.' " Amy rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
"Ok," I said, backing off, " I just don't want you to come home and start cutting your wrists just because of some party, you know?"
Amy reassured me, "Mom, I'll be fine. LeAnn's gonna be there, remember?"
"Alright, alright, I forgot she was invited too. So how many girls besides you and LeAnn are going to be there?"
Amy thought for a minute,"Well, there's Jessica, Jennifer, Olivia," she paused, counting on her fingers,"Yasmine, and Terri."
"So, seven girls?" I asked, turning on Bates Road.
"Yeah, and Jessie and Jenn's dad will be there too." She took out her black Ipod Nano and put the buds in her ears.
"End of conversation then," I thought to myself. I pulled into a fakely-decorated, old, four-story grey mansion.
Amy laughed and pointed at the porch. "Look, how lame is that?"
I leaned to see where she was pointing. Then I saw them. Standing with their hands on thier hips, stood two twins dressed in black, from head to toe.
"Looks like they're trying to be you." I commented.
She sighed,"Well, whatever they're trying to pull, I'll tell you about it tomorrow. "
She gave me a quick hug and stepped out of the car, "Bye mom."
"Bye, hun."
I watched her walk up the driveway towards the twins. They looked like they were arguing for a second, and then Amy shoved one of the black-clothed-look-a-likes out of the way and walked in the house.
"That's my girl." I said to myself, and pulled out of the driveway.
