Acceptance

Acceptance

A Poem by Bridget Kiley

Accepting that I’m not accepted
Holding tight thick corporate paper
Tiny slivers, into skin
Diminishing the only person
Image that I know not of

Accepting way that I am fashioned
A perfect crease down shaking thighs
Wide-collared, double-breasted
And stiff weaves of fabric " I reject
Anxious fibers undress, undress.

accepting I want not acceptation
No line of staples down my back
Nor paper clip surround my heart
A noise like vapor, chugs and chatters
And mimics through a daily dance
Of stark, of black bright loafers
And smiles forced and smut and slant
Why then should you remember,
A name as faceless as the rest.
