Dream in color

Dream in color

A Poem by Jordan Madrid

Dreams reside, lingering selfish in my head
And sweet images leave fragrance upon a dusty bed
A reckless creature besieged a heart and waits
Wariness lulls my head unto this pillowed gate

A face draws near with pride and dawn to rival thought
Twinkling like morning dew upon the mind it wrought
Here loveliness hath not a tomb, nor stone, nor rock
It draws; it rides on morning to break the gloom

Dawn strikes long, a fancy cord
It rattled bones and shook the boards
And held us tight to a colored dream
That delayed the end of her in me

Here I pause, pondering long upon this lasting dream
Where I walked with her into the crest of a bright bubbling blue sea
Floating there upon the wakes my fingers linger in her hair
As crows shriek high above us like they had no soul to bare
The water heaves up, growing ever restless to pitch me into waking
I raged and squirm against an end of sweet dreams and in that forsaking
Reality sacrificed for a lovely world that will forever fade away
I grasp with childish hands to prevent this dreams decay

Here dawn strikes long, a fancy cord
That rattled bones and shook the boards
It woke the beast that pierced the night
And held two lovers safe and tight

The sweetest dreams are never challenged but held tight
A secret love to deny the world a vision of purest light
