Take a Breathe

Take a Breathe

A Poem by Jordan Madrid

I breathe; it tastes like dust and sweat

I pull it in my lungs as cigarette smoke

Accented, the taste of whiskey rolls inside my mouth

Hot blood pounding, drumming in my head

My vision spins and ripples tearing at beauty

Humanity distorts, broken along the bottom

Curved like indignation

Pain like hands, icy about my heart, I pause

And forsake a simple spinning joy, all is loud

All is numb in this seductive place

Bodies litter the ground like silent parishioners

Praying to the god of secret pains and human lust

Emptiness grows inside my chest

In this revolving world I have lost myself

I crumple to the ground outside the sea of bodies

Pulling stale air into my lungs

I curl like a child, lost and alone

Each breath is labored, Each movement lost

In every face a broken life

Destroyed and forgotten sons of decadence

I close my eyes but still resides the haunted faces

Each one a lie, each one a shattered dream

The world claws, swirling away with me into darkness

I am lost, alone in a damnation that traps me

For even if my hands could hold a thing of beauty

Might I crush it to my chest?

Yet I have seen the lips that hold the cusp of every lie

I know that all the future does not matter here

All is dead for those that can no longer need the light

They hate themselves as I hate myself

We are together in this dark and lonesome place

This is intriguing. Makes me wonder where the location is? Is it real or fantasy? it is definitely a magnetic poem ~once you start it's hard to stop reading. Passion flows through this work. Thanks for reminding the reader to take a breathe.
