The System: Robbing From Peter To Give To PaulA Story by Father MojoMost of us agree that is a problem with the idea that we have to rob from Peter to give to Paul. But the problems seems to be that most people see this as a flaw in giving rather than that the system is flawed. The system has taught you that what may profit others will punish you; the system has taught you that help is a hindrance; it teaches that what benefits another will leave you bereft. But here is the thing that the system never tells you: THE SYSTEM LIES! There is poverty in the world because the system teaches you to put people into poverty and to justify keeping them there. There is sickness, warfare, disease, lack, suffering, because the system tells you these things are not only inevitable, but they are somehow necessary to your progress and your advancement. So you are apathetic to the needs of others because the system tells you to look out for number one. But looking out for number one doesn't move you to the top. It merely makes you a number, a cog in the machine -- a machine that produces suffering, poverty, violence, hatred, racism, all so a handful of people can profit. If the system were ever honest for one second, and let you know that you are nothing, and that the only difference between you and the homeless guy you stepped over in the subway is that you are willing to step over him and justify it to yourself, whereas he would, if he had anything, give you from what little he had, the entire system would collapse in upon itself because the moment you begin to put the concerns of others above your own, the system begins to fail -- and if everyone just put the needs of others above their own, the entire world would be transformed in a day. That is the truth of it. But we don't want to hear the truth. We don't want to hear how easy it is to change the world, we don't want that because it requires us to admit that we -- us -- the good people we tell ourselves we are -- are the only reason that 30,000 children starved to death yesterday, and the only reason another 30,000 will starve to death today. The only reason is that you don't care, and worse, you justify it, all so you can pretend you are somebody in a system that knows you are nothing, and even worse still, YOU know you are nothing and the lie you tell yourself is more important than the people who suffer as a result of it. © 2013 Father Mojo |
