They say

They say

A Poem by Katie Lynn

They've been telling me you're alright
I've been telling them I'm good too
But the truth is that I can't get over you
I dream of you when I sleep at night
Tried to drink the pain of losing you away
But I ended up swallowing our memories
With every sip I could feel a stronger breeze
Reminding me that we ended up this way
I pretend I'm over you to my friends
I try not to flinch when I hear your name
Then I get home and I feel the same
Wondering why love lingers after it ends
Then I think about what they told me
Were they lying when said you're fine
Are you still wishing you were mine
Are you crying tears that I can't see
I feel like I'll never get over you
But you've moved on in your life
Maybe you've found yourself a wife
Maybe you've changed what you do
But maybe you still think of me
Think of what we used to have together
Maybe you stop just to remember
Maybe in your dreams I'm what you see
They've been telling me you're fine
I've been telling them I'm good too
But the truth is that I can't get over you
Maybe you still wish you were mine

Love lost poetry can be the most powerful written. I enjoyed this piece; it touches on themes I think everybody goes through after a break-up, bitter or amicable.

Ps. "Tried to drink the pain of loosing you away ..." Is it 'loosing' you wish, or 'losing'? The meaning was lost on me as originally penned.

I can relate to this. It took me forever to get over my ex, and I was always thinking about the what ifs. You'll get over him. It might take a little longer, and you might feel like your heart is breaking into a million pieces, but you too will move on. Very nicely written.

I agree the poem flows very well, and the emotion builds as it is read, I would have liked to see it be even longer!

Very well written poem with a wonderful flow. The truth that lies within it is so poetic and everyone has felt the sting of loss love at least once. Very relatable poem to the masses. I loved it. T

"Wondering why love lingers after it ends" I love this line. It is the perfect way to say that you are sad about a break up. It's an amazing line, I love it. I really like the confusion you have at the end of the poem. That's exactly how I felt when i was broken up with, or when I broke up with someone. I constantly wondered who was more upset about it. Anyway, excellent poem, I hope you can read a few of mine.

Very very nice. This poem had the feeling, the emotion and flows great. Just a couple of rhyming lines but not to much to make it corny.
Nice job.

WRITE ON!
