You said those words, I prayed to God

You said those words, I prayed to God

A Poem by Katie Lynn

You said those words he packed right away
I prayed to God he’d return as he’d left that day.
You said those words he got on a boat
I prayed to God that he’d stay afloat.
You said those words now we can’t talk
I prayed to God that together again we’d walk.
You said those words He risked his life
I prayed to God for his children and wife.
You said those words he sat awaiting a call
I prayed to God tears over him wouldn’t fall.
You said those words he was with his brother
I prayed to God for the heart of his mother.
You said those words he flew high in the sky
I prayed to God once more that I’d hear his sigh.
You said those words and now he’s gone
I prayed to God that we’ll all move on.
You said those words he said his goodbyes
I prayed to God that no one else cries.
You said those words his life was disrupted
I prayed to God that his heart’s left constructed.
You said those words now I'm stuck alone
I prayed to God that they’ll all come home.
You said those words with such disregard
I prayed to God their lives he’d guard.
