Marine's Girl Back Home

Marine's Girl Back Home

A Poem by Katie Lynn

The times he was gone, I'd watch the news
hoping to catch a glimpse of those digi camos
But I never saw him until I wish I hadn't
The farther up they lifted him in that plane
The farther down my broken heart sank
Knowing that if it wasn't him it was someone
and that somewhere there was some poor girl
Hoping it isn't her Marine being carried away
Praying that it isn't the love of her life
But never wishing it was anyone elses
Marine's girls don't do that to each other
We are strong, we are united, we are faithful.
We are the ones that stay home and cry
We are the girls that get tough and step up
Taking care of our family and homes if we have them
Getting ready to build one if we don't
Marine's girls are a special breed of woman
We are tough, we are caring, we are faithful
We carry the weight of his worries with us everywhere
We constantly pray that he won't be dying a hero just yet
But we know if that day comes; we're ready
Weather that flag goes to his Mother or to us.
We know he died loving us... missing us... longing for us
We don't need material things, but they're nice to have
We are calm, we are brave, we are faithful
As we walk to his grave, when others may falter
we stand proud and tall, maybe a child in tow
We lay a letter on his grave, stand and salute
We feel the gentle breeze dance around us
because we know Marines all become Angels
Protecting the ones they love on Earth
Never resting, never stopping, always present
We are few in number, we are proud, we are faithful
We are the Marine's reason for fighting
We are the Girls Back Home

...'We feel the gentle breeze dance around us

Never resting, never stopping, always present...' Your writing evokes all sorts of emotions, extremely well~

An excellent tribute to Marines & their loved ones; and you included his mother....Exceptional kindness to acknowledge his mom...You see, my son is SGT Hepler, US Army. From my heart, thank you.
