Crumbles

Crumbles

A Poem by Katie Lynn

The rose upon her desk is drying out and crumbling
Reminding her of the last time she was loved
Somehow torturing her away from getting there again
The memories that haunt her begin haunting your mind
The way she's been hurt before makes her run from you
Hard to believe she can be so cold but still so weak
Hard to see that she is not as strong as she pretends
That is what happens when we practice our illusions
We get to be really good at putting on a happy show
Truly skilled at hiding our true pain and our afflictions
Then after time we hide them from ourselves, we believe
We believe our own lies, our own show, our happiness
She hasn't gotten to that yet, not even close in fact
She may seem strong to you and to the world
But not so deep inside she hides her real world
She holds in all the pain and every emotion
Replacing everything she feels with anger
And you can't understand, or she just won't let you
To her you may be just another dying rose
Maybe she won't even let it get that far
