It's Slipping Away

It's Slipping Away

A Poem by Brenda Speegle
"

Anger in verse.

"

Sit down and listen to what I have to say

About humankind's ego:  Gone insane.

What excuse is there to act this way?

Who thinks morality has gone astray?

Every man's integrity is now up for sale.

Lose grandma's house to pay your boyfriend's bail.

Grandma is gone and life is already Hell.

You can always view this as a cautionary tale.

They blew-up a little boy right on TV.

It was a terrorist plot:  An unknown enemy.

Tune into warfare on an American street.

When we can't bear arms, killing is too easy.

Christianity is now Capitalism, you know it's true.

Worshiping the dollar is much easier to do.

Money does not take hours away from you.

Not like God. He was such a prude.

Go see a welfare doctor; I double dare you to try.

He has ten minutes per patient, if the day's gone right.

We've allowed medicine to industrialize.

Without insurance, you deserve to die.

You are so obsessed with where I smoke,

You think the Constitution is something you wrote.

Americans each have the right to cast their vote,

It makes us feel free, but it's all a joke.

We are so proud to have the freedom of speech,

But, now we've lost the right to choose the food we eat.

Against gay marriage, the clergy vehemently preach.

(Moms, keep your little boys out of their reach).

These are the words I want to say

They make no difference; nothing will change.

As one by one my rights go away.

Speaking the truth only hastens fate.
