We are Australia

We are Australia

A Story by Azsa Wild

An loathing the days I'm not working or wanted on set
How can an artist breathe in this economy?
They see young an inexperienced how bland there existence must be
To judge on the outside still
When my mind is a superior complexity
I am
The hard worker
Led myself into the mud and heavy rains
Only to be confronted by the fires and the burdens of anxiety
So fire me
For not playing games
For not standing up to passive aggressive bullies
Or combating the condescending of an entitled insecurity
Purity of heart
Where do I bathe in the light?
F**k this system
The gruelling governments taxes and wages wasting away
We are headed for thunderdome
Nobody believes it
But concrete jungles were intended to end up that way

We are given away by trade deals
We are sold to the seas
Every hypocrisy of racism
For twisted theorist plain to see
It is discrimation daily
An you cannot win social security
Media is only filthy money
In a pot luck of animosity

Our bodies can be owned
Our voices can be stolen
Our hearts can be broken
An our souls merely a token

For what we do as individuals
How dare we sacrifice one by one
When we have the chance to stand together
An fight a war that already begun

So shut off that f*****g tv set
Show you're children a world they can be proud of
An end of the Australian docile crowd
Advance on the fair and the equity abound

Beggars can't be choosers
But who chooses 8hours or pensions
How many small businesses and aboriginals ever get a mention
Its still white washed and turmoil peak
A front of our "lucky country"
An even if we rid society of labels
We would still have a name for outcasts and freaks
We would still have divide of 3 classes
And the poorest would pay by the brink
Stand together you mongrels you flamin battlers and youth
They may shut down protests
But there is more to believe in I believe in you

I am more than a young gun speaking from heart and head
I am grateful just for a shelter for a meal and a bed
I've been all over Aus
I've seen and done so many things
Now I've been reflecting and projecting my idealist dream

I know I am not alone
I know many want real hope
We can build that together
We can build each other a home

We are Australia
From sands to stone we stand
Building futures together
Watering our thirsty land
Colours of the wind with pride
Our nation's open to all
See us in the dream time
Hear us when we call
Oi
Make it of tolerance despite your fears
Make it home to those in jeopardy
As stone age as many come across
Many more exceed empathy
I am you are
We are

You are an amazing writer, a new find for me, I think (I'm forgetful, but I don't remember reading you). You left me a blank review on one of my postings & that's why I'm checking you out. This poem is remarkable on many levels, but here are a couple . . . (1) Being from the USA, I could not believe how this applies to almost everything going on here too & so well expressed in all the idiosyncrasies of the scourge of democracies around the world . . . and (2) you take the reader from abject disgust & dejection to such a hopeful ending. Where are the leaders who can do this to the people? This is real leadership, right here . . . not ignoring the problems, but acknowledging them & still being able to lift people to a higher purpose. You should be in politics, even tho I think politicians in general are totally missing the mark everywhere . . . (3) you deal with the micro and the macro so well & usually I would say "focus" & not be so scattered in your purpose, but even with the scattershot approach here, you really do hammer your points logically & convincingly & with high spirit (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
