4 Short and Sweetly Dark Poems

4 Short and Sweetly Dark Poems

A Poem by LA Waning

~~Once~~

I had a friend once
I saw them die... Just once
They loved me once
I wish I could have loved
Just once

~~Done~~

My heart's a beating drum
my brain it knows the thrum
C**k back the hammer and squeeze
Now the deed is done
Now the devil's won

~~This~~

I run emaciated fingers down a bar of chilled steel
Over and over until my nails chip off
Over and over until my skin peels off
I do this thing because I'm just trying to feel
I do this

~~Why?~~

There are eels and snakes inside me
Under my body
Under my skin
Eating my blood
Drinking my sin
I don't know how they got there
I don't know where I've been

Ah! The tortured mind of a Renfield reveals itself here. Confused and suffering for abominable revelations
of his psyche engendered by he what he cannot comprehend. Perhaps you should name the wretch and offer more of his story? I hope he stays out of my neighborhood.

Your words are very blunt and honest. I liked these four poems. My favorite were done and why. Done reminds me of shrugging your shoulders once you've done something. It's sort of like giving up but it's giving up as in you did what you did, you took that chance and you can't turn back. No regrets sort of thing. Why reminds me of suppressing the demons within a person. You don't necessarily know what you did to get that way, but you just are. I feel like I need to know a little bit more back story for "This." Like what is the action that the speaker is doing? For the first poem, I like it, but I need some clearing up. Is the speaker wishing they could've loved the friend back or to have been able to know love in general? Good job! :)
