The Maiden and the KeeperA Poem by John RickFor our many nights have been spent at the lighthouse by the sea, To watch the Morning Star shine as radiant as she And Solis to rise for wandering eyes to see The maiden and the keeper and how our love came to be--- The maiden and the keeper of the lighthouse down by the sea Beautiful, oh, just beautiful what the seraphs have brought for me A maiden, the fairest of all maidens that I have ever seen Who finds tranquillity at the lighthouse down by the sea--- In the comfort of my arms and the presence of my being Just a keeper of the lighthouse and the sound of the sea And so did love have sprung between her and me Love with strength stronger than we--- But not so strong I thought it to be Not as strong as earth and her gravity For her mind is set with me, but her heart roams free Not for the keeper of the lighthouse nor the sight of the sea And so I gave and gave for her to see that love I’ve given The love others have been longing--- Love others envisioned--- Love others sees as riddance--- And of some, have withered--- ‘Til the day she met eyes of a potential lover And I gazed upon the thundering Heavens Down at the lighthouse by the anger of the ocean For so long I have kept hidden as you have kept your affair ---This hope of love from you may still be there ---The love that blossomed at the lighthouse by the sea I can’t allow you to be loved by others but me So, my love and of the ocean is what killed you and me From the tower, we came, to the shore of the sea The maiden and the keeper and what our love came to be--- The maiden and the keeper of the lighthouse down by the sea © 2019 John Rick |
