A Poem by Arthur Zevalij

My brother had asked me

Why don’t you bring it to school

And one day I did.

They almost stopped me at the gates

And asked that I showed my ID

When they looked at the photo

I replaced it from the bag into

The sleeve of my shirt

There was a storm that night

And the gulls were crying strange yelps

On the parking lot

As the wind blew garbage cans across pavement

I unbuttoned my coat and put it inside the locker

Only after the day was over I realized

The combination had changed

All on its own

I my what a distinct and immediate visual movement. Would love to see this in a short film adaptation.

I'd like to give you a good review on this one, but frankly, I don't do well with contemporary poetry, and I didn't understand it.
