Siku (Ice)

Siku (Ice)

A Poem by John Jackson (El Juero)
"

Inuit word.

"
Inuit, Inupiaq, Yupik,
far northern People
existing here for centuries.
They have dozens of words
for the changing properties
of Ice.
Age old, successful cultures
built, literally, on Ice.
Things are changing in their World,
and thus, in our World.
And I fear that someday soon,
the Eskimo word for Ice,
may be the same one they use,
for Water.

Saving that thought until the last stanza adds great power (and sadness) to this piece. The straightforward prose works well with the sober message. Nicely done.

I do no know much about these things .. But I believe you may be correct .. And probably the word for water will become "poison" ..

Way Cool .. J.

I imagine so and yes it is very real and sad... the ending really hit me on how true it is!
