Benz

Benz

A Story by John Jackson (El Juero)
"

...it's all about the internals.

"
I hear Janis Joplin's song,
in my head, a lot.

Oh Lord

I was acquainted with my future Wife,
long before we dated.
She drove a nice car, I had a rusty pickup.

Woncha buy me

A very nice car, indeed.
But I was interested in the driver.
A vehicle is a thing we 'get in' or 'put on'.
She worked hard and saved to buy a quality car.

A Mercedes Benz

Some assumed I was attracted, because of the car.
They never attempted to really know the driver.
What's inside a person, place or thing matters most.
The externals are often very deceiving.
Lucky me. (I already had a color TV)

fantastic observation poetry on human qualities~ so many of us (me guilty I admit) make immediate assumptions on what sorrounds a person instead of what they are made of~ I love the fluid array of lines you used~ it enhances the explorative soul feel of the poem~

a valuable lesson within this write. So true, that the internal is far more important than what lay on the outside. I do love the clever way in which you reminded us of this fact.
