arrogance and ignorance

arrogance and ignorance

A Poem by John Jackson (El Juero)

Arrogance
stems from wildly inflated self importance,
therefore ignoring the realities that others
are valuable and also have unique skills.
Ignorance
because of too little knowledge and lack of facts,
breeding a bizarre arrogance that if one does not
care to gather information, it simply does not exist.
So sometimes,
the arrogant are ignorant, the ignorant are arrogant.
It amazes how closely related these two traits can be.
Humility is in the middle, and that's good enough for me.

I have long drawn out seasons of all three....usually not at once.

This was a good write!

oh they are related alright , and humility is not in the middle , it rises above both .

Very good! I meet plenty of this type on both sides of the aisle when trying to discuss politics. Wish I could say I was humble, probably not so much. Makes for a nice ending to the poem, though!

Arrogance and ignorance are terrible when combined, I don't think I'd listen long to this person.

I have rarely been called an arrogant b*****d, but know that I can be an ignorant b*****d, but my greatest comfort is to know that in both cases I am still a b*****d....lol. You make a great point Hutch.

It is interesting and something to certainly think on for awhile. Excellent wrap up to the piece.

A teacher once told me if you're in the middle in a debate, on neither side, if you're unsure and confused in life and feel like you just don't know enough to take any one side, then you're doing something right. I live by that, and this poem reminded me of that. So often people set in their ideas and arguments are either arrogant or ignorant or both, and thtey miss out on so much in life, especially in refusing to entertain other ideologies or lifestyles. If you're not open to contrasting ideas, then you will go on knowing absolutely nothing, and your poem emphasizes this. And for that, I am grateful. Well written poem, my friend, and thanks for the words of wisdom.

You expose your views very well here. I love ramblings, they show we can truly think eh (not meant to be arrogant though lol)! But you are so right here. And I thought I'd say, your piece reminds me of a quote from a lyrics I adore: "Self-disgust is self-obsession, honey, and I do as I please - a morality obedient".
