Prison

Prison

A Poem by ayejodie

He has the key, he's taunting me.
He needs it though,
Won't set me free.
I grip these bars, so tight it stings.
He weighs me down,
And buys me things.
I got given life,
Not a life worth living.
And if he found out
I wouldn't be forgiven.
A butterfly came, real late at night,
Slipped through the bars
And held me tight.
She held my hand, in a way you can't,
Then Left me to live,
A life I can't stand.
I fell for her, but she went away.
The prison guard said
No visitors today.
In the darkness I stayed, this little cell,
Alone with him,
We scream, we yell.

I grip these bars, I grip them tight
If only I could fly,
Away from this life.
Will he let me go,
Will he drop the keys.
I just want to know,
Is she waiting for me?
And here I am on the cold hard ground,
Screaming at myself
To get up and walk out.
But I look at his face, I can see in his eyes,

If one of us wins, the other one dies.

this is beautifully written and having been in a toxic relationship myself I felt the power and truth in your words.

This is a very powerful analogy! Well done! I suspect it’s about a toxic relationship... I have a poem on my account about a toxic relationship as well. If you’d like, take a peek! :)

Sometimes we have no option to live in the prison of another. But if u can fly, do it. This touched me to the core. Happy writing..
