It's a walk in the parkA Poem by ayejodieA neglected relationship
I remember a time,
I looked at you and saw myself. With you in that moment and forever. Complete and still, We merged to one. Filling in my broken pieces, Our branches intertwined. So in love, it was comfortably overpowering. But somewhere along the line, Overtime, We gave up trying. Accidentally forgetting, To water the plants. With time our lights have faded And the smallest flames began. Burning at the souls of our feet, We became irritable. Conversation became a different language, Unable to understand one another. The sting reaching our throats As we scream hateful sins. Unable to carry on, but we do it anyway. This existing love it lingers still, So Weakened, we can barely feel it. We forget it's there. We both know, The grass won't grow on burnt soil. We both know, We are both responsible for killing what we had. Slowly, our path is splitting into two, No longer walking this together. The path behind we can't retrace, Engulfed in flames and thick black smoke. It gets harder to see how far we've walked, And all we've seen and done. As we continue, Aware of this forest fire around us, We let it touch our skin, we let it in. © 2017 ayejodieAuthor's Note
