Stage Girl

Stage Girl

A Poem by ayejodie

I stood there,
Up on stage, In my red dress.
I glowed against the lights,
So intense they almost pierced through.
As I waited to begin,
I watched the crowd in the darkness,
Shuffling around, no notice of me.
The piano began, without warning.
I closed my eyes
And with a shakey voice, I start to sing.
-And it's not like anyone stopped for me.
But I let it take me anyway,
The words took me,
My heart took over.
The crowd disappeared, only you were there.
I sang to you.
A tear traveled down my cheek
as I remembered,
The love we had, and more importantly lost.
Awoken,
when I accidentally called for you.
I opened my eyes, somewhat stained from mascara.
My grip, tight on the mic.
The crowd took no notice,
But you'd gone, again.

No matter what I do,
I'm reminded of you.
