Windows

A Story by Jordan Warren

I'm opening my windows, and my blinds, letting the sunlight in.
The same sunlight I so desperately fear. I can feel the air blowing on my too-sensitive skin.
My mind aches, twists and turns, thrashes, trying to stay afloat. I choke on the water, the black film of ink that consumes everything I see.
I can feel it trying to suck my into the grave. My size exactly. Cooing at me with sweet words that only mean to harm.
I tread water, kicking my tired legs as I repeat the same mantra over and over:
Way down, way down, way down, way down…
