Daddy

Daddy

A Poem by Cassandra

Harsh steps mirror harsh words

jagged breaths wheezing with fury

belching noxious air that poisons us all

Poisons my thoughts

turns my young heart cold

Rough

Dark

Unloving

Frigid to the touch

Once naive eyes grow old

witnessing the rough words of your mouth

fester into stinking cesspools of filth

sunk into deep trenches between us

And now you look down

To see that the muck has submerged you

to the knees

and frantically begin to form your bridge

as I watch from across the way

Eyes glazed over

protected by layers of indifference

Lazy smile creeps across a bitter mouth

because the sewage keeps rising
