Crash Landing

Crash Landing

A Poem by Nora Mandrus

It unfolds in front of your eyes.
You cannot do anything.
Standing.
Witnessing.
Wishing.
Waiting.
A pang strikes your being.
It envelops your heart.
The beating grows louder until it is the only thing that exists.
You fall to your knees.
Looking up to the stars
or
some higher power.
But nothing comes.
Everyone is blind.
No one can see this etched across your face.
Tears threaten to spill
but the sign of weakness
strengthens your resolve.
After it all dissipates
you remain in the safety of your own mind.
But then you walk out the door.
towards the light and darkness.
