The Meaning

The Meaning

A Poem by Julie

Cloudless skies belie a truth
stored in the bones and beats of life
save one.

Fear that mattered now is lost
Hope, the wellspring of longevity
God’s downfall.

On a mantle, in sun-filled room
‘tween the crocus and lily, store-bought
A fly in a jar evades a spider
heedless of gleeful eyes watching,
grubby hands steadying.

Mica twinkles on a roaring shore
windy sand carrying children’s squeals
scattering flies
and seagulls feasting
on the grey and lifeless arm
wearing a Rolex.

Such macabre imagery and such dark vision and yet so finely evoked...vivid and scary!
