HauntedA Poem by Jessica Gilbert
Black dress swaying in the painful wind
standing in the bone meadow of my secret sins This is where my sorrows lay the dreams that have never been I hear the memories the sound is golden chocolate to my brittle teeth The unborn hopes play in bloody rain Aborted by the broken promise of a never coming train My dress is torn they laugh at me Chasing loose strands floating in the wind - reached by invisible hands I turn to the bone tree and watch it shake fallen wishes and dreams bruise where they lay Their color turns from gold to crimson the ghosts run and eat the poison Diamond tears slip from my eye will this be where I come after I die? Will the ghost children of my sorrow... forever eat the fruit of a broken tomorrow Awake from the dream now my throbbing lungs struggle to breath But the laughter of the naked children, their sorrowful eyes will forever torment me The children are my broken dreams
