The Masks You Can't See

The Masks You Can't See

A Poem by The Avid Bibliophile

We all wear masks you can’t see

Some of us wear happy masks

Some of us wear sad ones

But all disguise who we truly are

No matter what they look like

We all wear masks you can’t see

That are like protective skin

They shield us from all pain

They dictate our actions

And they help us fit in

We all wear masks you can’t see

That decree the rules of life

Whether to be happy or sad

Whether something is good or bad

The mask will tell you how to feel

We all wear masks you can’t see

But if we all removed our masks

Would we recognize each other?

Or would the world be full of strangers

Because we’ve revealed our true selves
