The Struggle of SelfA Poem by AveTNThe daily battle against the self and the two major sides of our character- the positive and the negative, the moral and the immoral, the right and the wrong, the destructive and the constructive.
Although armed with the best intentions,
Futile would be any man's fight. No army of a thousand, Nor single strongest might Could stay this beast of burden Or drag it into the light. A beast that cannot be conquered, Felled or killed or silenced. It answers resistance with cruelty, With vengeance and with spite. By the ticking of passive time, It slowly eats the soul Devouring every morsel, Though never pleasantly full. Never does it cease nor relent Until the deed is done - When it and Death shall marry, And the battle o're life is won.
