Tell me you still love me

Tell me you still love me

A Poem by averynean

Your eyes divert to the ground
anytime Im near,
the corners of your mouth raise
and your eyes gleam whenever she is;
the same way they did when you would whisper into my shoulder:
I love you.

I can smell your hate for me,
I can see it written onto my skin.
All the places I let your hands wander, where your lips traced: they ache and throb.

My eyes are swollen and
red from an ache for your
return; a plea for the soft
spoken lover I once held
in the dark of my room to
come crawling back out
of my closet.

Oh, absolutely powerful! The piece begins as a benign love poem-prose...

Until the second stanza and ultimate last lines kicked me right in the heart...

I LOVE IT!

The poem is strong and you imparts emotion and longing very well. I can very much relate to this write. You asked for a critique but I will ask instead a question. Your poem is largely short-lined but you have chosen to have two lines be rather long. I might look at modifying line length. But that is just a style note. Otherwise, keep penning. Hope to read more of your work:)

a likely new love interest is the context I believe here. The longing for the love back into the life is vivid and heartening. The betrayal hurts. A poetic plea for the lover/husband to return and brighten th dark rooms and revive their relationship with affection and attention. Physical hurts from crying, trauma and emotional wounds are poetically well described. The things kept in the closet recall the lovers memories and love feelings which now remain hidden and in waitin Thankyou for sharing an emotionally well written poem dear @averynean
