Spell It Out

I call this an up and down poem because not only is there one poem reading left to right but if you take the first letter of every line it reads a second message. It's basically a 2 in 1 poem. Enjoy! P.S. This is for my girlfriend.

Many people don't understand how

I have feelings for you

Can't they see how beautiful you really are

How that I already knew

And how happy you make me

Even on the worst of my days

Little did I know it can be all better with

A hug in many caring ways

 

Yet, it seems that you

Only have me

Under a spell that I

Really fell for

 

Everyone may think, wait

You and me

Even if it doesn't last

Still loved every moment with you

 

And that's where it began

Remembering the first days we met

Even if only for a few minutes

 

But as time goes on

Each and every day

And how that spell you have me

Under grew, it

Took some time to feel this way

I only hope you feel the same

For depression turns to happiness

Under this cloud of grey as you

Light up the way

 

And after our time together

Night after night

Don't I wish that we we're together forever

 

I can only hope for the best

 

Never did I think I'd

Ever fall for you

Very happy to know you

Everyday hoping your

Ready to give me my chance at love

 

Wishing for that every night

A change in my life

Now with you in it

To be the one to keep me smiling

 

Taking time to be with you

Or even just seeing you in the crowd

 

So to this day

Today, I can't wait for

Other days to see you again

Promise you'll be there too

 

Stay here

Trying to keep you safe

As I defend your life

Ready to fight

In any condition, just

Never want to stop

Giving you happiness either

 

I guess for

Now t's only a dream

That I can't wait to come true

Oh, how I wish you'll be mine soon

 

Tonight is the night

a poem within a poem - sometimes the ancient forms are the most modern
for some fun write a poem where every third word (for example) makes up a new poem
one could drift off into the infinite playing these sorts of games

a big part of writing poetry for me is to having fun - too many people seem to miss this simple idea
